The Royal Complex
// May 16, 2003 (Click on image to see panaroma)The Daulat Khana as it was called at Fatehpur Sikri. Starting from far left is the Turkish Sultana's palace, far behind is Khwabgah complex (Akbar's sleeping chamber, library and office), the Anup Talao (Tansen's seat) in front if it, Abdar khana (water storage house), the five storeyed Panch Mahal, Ankh Michauli (the treasury house) and the Diwan-e-Khas (Jewel House). The small stool you see in the courtyard on the right was the centrepiece of a game of <em>pachisi played using maids as pawns. The time when I went to see Fatehpur Sikri was mid-May with its scorching heat. As you can see the photo is over-exposed a bit. I wonder how any emperor could stay here in summer with no cooling mechanisms around. No wonder the reason Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned was shortage of water.
