Elephants of Dubare
// March 25, 2005 (more •)Amidst the lush greenery of Coorg and on the banks of the Cauvery is the Dubare elephant training camp. Run by the Forest department, the camp trains wild elephants captured from the wilds with the help of tamed elephants and the Kurabas, the local tribes. The Dubare reserve forest was where the Maharaja of Mysore also used to train his elephants for the grand Mysore Dussera festival. The fun part at the camp is you get to scrub the elephants yourself and feed them too apart fro the oh-so-boring elephant ride. Rubbing your hand against the surprisingly soft tongue of a tusker is an experience you won't have anywhere else in the world!

I love the one of the eye of the elephant. You can really feel the wise, old, compassionate soul of the elephant looking out at you.
